Accelerating Geothermal Energy Adoption in Romania with Innovative Driven Energy Piles (GeoInnovatePile)

About the project

GeoInnovatePILE aims to accelerate geothermal energy adoption through innovative driven energy piles. In partnership with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), GreenTAGS by Expert Proiect, and the Romanian GeoExchange Society (RGS), the project promotes patented precast modular energy piles as heat exchangers for sustainable heating and cooling of buildings. These structures offer a fast, flexible, and cost-effective solution for implementing shallow geothermal systems and creation of local renewable energy sources.

GeoInnovatePILE promotes the use of innovative shallow geothermal energy systems for heating and cooling of buildings. The DEP (Driven Energy Pile) technology, patented by NTNU, enables the extraction of geothermal energy without the need for drilling, making it accessible and cost-effective. By fostering the implementation of this innovative solution, the project aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to lowering carbon emissions, supporting Europe’s goals of emission reductions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

Key
Objectives

DEP Technology Adaptation

The project will analyse the structural and energy adaptability of Driven Energy Piles (DEP) in Romania, focusing on soil conditions, climate conditions and return of investment figures from client perspective. The project will evaluate potential applications for various building types, from individual properties to large-scale projects.

Knowledge Transfer & Awareness

The project will promote the exchange of best practices and expertise on innovative geothermal solutions in Romania. It will support capacity-building and raise awareness among key stakeholders to foster the adoption of sustainable energy systems.

Technology

Energy geostructures is an innovative technology that turns building foundations into renewable energy sources, providing efficient heating and cooling for new buildings.

Driven Energy Pile (DEP) is a patented system that utilizes the foundations of a building to harness shallow geothermal energy without any need for drilling. This innovative approach represents a significant leap forward in sustainable building practices. By integrating energy generation directly into foundational elements, DEP enhances the energy efficiency of new constructions and opens up exciting possibilities for retrofitting existing buildings. Not only does this technology tackle critical energy challenges, but it also facilitates the use of renewable resources, making it an ideal solution.
